Yea 88 has been paid off for like 12 years and it's not registered or insured for now until I do something with it so it's costing me literally $0 to keep it

Maybe try pulling the backseat bottom out or dropping the gas tank to see if the factory build sheet is there still

That's def the way to do it. Lol.....I'll have to try that. I know front seat was reupholstered at one point but I'm not 100% positive about the back but I'll look. No telling about the gas tank though. Any way to find where it was sold or some history without carfaxing the vin? I decoded the vin but want to find out some more.
 
Smith's 1973 Nova

Decided to clean on and try and polish the entire car yesterday. Came out nice, could use a few more passes but I wasn't going for perfect, looks 100% better than it did and it's got some wax on it. I might mess with it more one day but for now I'm good. Also pulled old nasty tint off.

Polished the bumpers with some OTC metal polish.

Also pulled the rear seat to look for the build sheet and I believe the seats have been recovered and the sheet wasn't there.

Carpet was a little wet from sitting outside so it leaks somewhere. It'll live inside from now on so I'll track that down later. Trunk does have a few small holes from water sitting but nothing real major.

No doubt! Like I said, not perfect but 100% better. Definitely could use some more passes but paint is so jacked from not being taken care of this will do for awhile....and haha, I have a certain silver birch single cab that needs some lovin'

I'll probably put mine off until closer to summer/the CGM meet unless I decide to borrow bohalls billets and go to a show lol

Haha, few friends/people didn't even know they were s10 wheels when I said it. A good friend is fixing to buy new wheels for his camaro and might give me his old ones and if so the zq8's will be up for sale to pay on the car.

Tell me about it. Next time I'm down there I might drop the gas tank and check for the other one there. Wasn't quite up to it and didn't have time this weekend. Agreed though, happy with pain turnout.
 
Did a few things today, starting with pulling the cowl to get some trash out. There was a ton of stuff in there.

After that, moved onto the interior. Last update I mentioned the wet/damp carpet which had me nervous so decided to yank the carpet out since it eventually was going to need replacing and I didn't want it in there holding moisture.

Turns out they are better than some but not as well as I'd had hoped. After finding the carpet damp I had the sinking feeling I would find something though, a few of the pictures I put a light under the car so you could see the holes from the top.

Okay, I've seen some on here JB weld small holes and others cut out and replace for small things after rust treatment/prevention. I'm new to this rust stuff and fixing it and need some advice on what you would do to fix it.

Also, think I should por15 the entire interior floor, etc or go another route? If another route/brand please offer a alternate and why. Thanks!

I've read several threads on other sites where they've used it for small pin hole type areas after treating the rust and all. Of course not on exterior body panels, etc though.

Just thought it might be an okay fix, I don't think it's appropriate for the larger holes though but definitely don't think they are in bad enough shape for a full panel replacement.

I have a welding machine, however, the machine has never been used and I havn't used one period in 7 or 8 years. Don't know much about them anymore either so don't even know if it'd be good for patching anyway

Appreciate the comment though, tis' why I asked whether the feedback is negative on my idea or positive all input is welcome as its 100% a learning experience for myself.
 
If you are going to fix it do it right. Rust will just come back through if it is not removed. Treated or not.

So do you think it warrants an entire floor pan to get rid of rust in this case?

I agree with you on wanting to do it right though, but as mentioned I've read where people have had large success on panels with rust treatments/encapsulators and just thought that with that things might be okay which is why that was my initial thoughts as I have the abilities to be able to do that whereas Id have to get the welding machine up to par and make sure I could use it or pay someone. Before any of this was applied Id for sure use a wire wheel, etc to get down as far to bare metal as I could.

I've also seen where companies like por15 make a por putty and other kits/products for things such as small holes which is another thing that peaked my interest. I do know that on one fender I'll have to get a patch panel welded I believe.
