ITGuy's 2003 Sierra 1500/2500 4x4 RCLB Build Thread

I am pretty sure it won't look much better than stock with the flat black, but it will be protected at least.
I have a pretty good condition frame to work with so that helps.

Mostly covering a little surface rust around a few edges where the stock gm coating has dried and cracked.

Just got the word that the cores are in for my rims! Should be ready mid September!

Moving on~ Removed the UCA's tonight and did some more prep work with the metal primer.

Out with the old - UCA's, Spindles, hubs, dust shields..

Also lifted the back of the bed up and started cleaning up surface rust underneath.
I will wash the bottom of the bed in the morning and the whole bed will be undercoated
with metal primer and eventually topcoated with flat black like the rest of the frame.

Slow going right now since I am waiting on parts. Good time to clean and paint everything.

Got most of the front end undercoated (2nd coat) of flat black. Looks great when dried.
Also completed all the grinding and about 50 % of the metal primer on the bed.
Painting up the fender walls to a line just above the filler on the side, all the way around.

Bed will probably last longer than I will!

I'll give it another coat tomorrow when I re-coat the truck bed.

Day 2 - Finished undercoating the bed with metal primer. That took forever.
Not sure if I will go back over it with Flat black or not.

Might save it for later when I do the rear frame.

Time for beer. It's going to rain soon, so I am glad it's finished.

Looks good man! You have way more patience than me that's for sure lol.

Thanks. I'll take some pics soon. My patience was wearing thin.. I have the bed suspended by a hoist, so had to stay scrunched down and paint above my head. Way better than using the angle grinder though..that got old real quick. Just glad its at a stage where I can leave it.

When I start doing stuff I want it done right then lol. Kinda sucks and some times leads to me fucking it up. It's good to be able to leave it lol.

Well you can still see some dimples / pitting in the some of the metal [mostly 2 rear bed supports]. I couldn't grind everything out,
but the coating should prevent any further deterioration. it's under the bed anyway

Just finished test-fitting the new idler assembly.

Also I cleaned the LCA's, motor mounts, and a few other spots. I am going to paint them as well. Can't have shiny clean Cognito uppers and dulled out lowers.

I figured I can paint all those areas + the trim and fenders on the bed at once.

No painting this afternoon though. I'm beat. + Fantasy league is meeting at Buffalo Wild Wings.. DNW to miss that.
