Dean's '11 Crew Cab Budget Build

Jeez. Scared to know the price on a set for NNBS

FFR is like $260? IIRC that could be way off lol but that sounds right.
I'm pretty sure they are close to that. That's the price the guy I bought these from said he paid. There may be some other companies that make kits too. You could also get in touch with Brett and see if he could build you a set. I could give him length measurements if needed too.

I didn't get the 3" blocks in like I wanted to (u-bolts weren't long enough) but I did go on and get the 2" blocks in. The 3" will go in as soon as I get some new u-bolts to go with them. Hoping the weather holds out and I can give it a good detail later on this week.

That's really not too bad. Like Sam said, if your replacing them anyways it will be worth it. If you go as high as mine, there is potential that the tre would be the limiting joint and dnw tre snapping while driving.

Yeah you're right. May reconsider going that high then... Maybe do 2" level and adjust bilsteins to 1.18 like you did kind of. Then just do Moogs.

or having to replace it too early.

I got a chance to get the rear end set and I'm pretty happy with how the truck sits right now. I went with the 3" blocks and decided to do a u-bolt flip at the same time. New measurements are 40" front 39.5" rear. If the weather holds out I'll give it a good detail and get some good pics of it this weekend. Here's some dirty pics for now though.

Thanks guys. Ran it through the touch-free wash today and got it clean enough for some pictures. Here's some of my favorites.

So here's a rather long winded update, so please bear with me.

Monday morning on the way to work my CEL came on. The truck has been running just fine so I thought nothing of it, just that I would get the codes read after work. During lunch, I ran to the store up the street with no issues, CEL still on though. On my way back, I loose oil pressure at less than half throttle and get 'oil pressure low - shut off engine' across the dic. I get off of the gas, oil pressure returns and the message goes away. I ease my way back to work and park it. I checked the oil and the dipstic was dry, not good. I had 8k on that batch of oil (amsoil xl, rated for 10k) and had run the previous batch for 10k with no problems. Thankfully my dad was in town, so he picked up some oil to top it back off so I could get it to the dealer to have them look at it. It ended up being 2qts low.

After letting the dealer investigate, they found that the oil sending unit was clogged with sludge and the oil was 'black' despite 1/3 of the oil being new.
They cleaned the engine out, got a new oil sending switch in it, and filled it back up with oil. They didn't seem too concerned about the oil consumption because it is technically 'within GM spec'.

With all that said, the next couple of oil changes will be done at the dealer to make sure that any consumption is documented. I was able to have them save a sample of the oil so that I can send it out for a uoa and see if there is anything else going on that I should be worried about. Since this motor has AFM/DOD a catch can and a tune have been bumped to the top of the list.

With the issues I'm having now, I decided to do some digging into what actually got put in the truck whenever the first motor was replaced. According to the pn they gave me, here is what was put back in. All of this, to my knowledge, is new parts.

Based on that, it looks like most everything short of the intake and fuel injection system were replaced. I'm going to be keeping a really close eye on the motor for a while considering the potential for AFM lifter failure.

Breif update with some good and bad

Good: I ordered a catch can from catchcans.com (already here) to go on the truck. Made some custom clamps to go with it and plan on mounting it next to the alternator. It will go on shortly.

Bad: The truck is still going through oil like crazy. With ~1400 on this oil, I was a quart low. Dealer confirmed the consumption and is having me come back in 500 miles for another check. There is a service bulletin out on this motor involving an updated valve cover and an additional shield in the oil pan. Once the consumption is confirmed I will have them quote the work that needs done. The warranty is up on the truck, so I don't think they will cover the service even though it's a TSB repair.

I have a strong feeling that it's the valve cover that's causing the issue. From what I can tell, I'm not burning any oil (no smoke of any color) so it has to be getting trapped somewhere, most likely the intake. Once the repairs are done I'll add the catch can and go from there.

You're either burning the oil or its leaking, if that much is stuck in your intake you would have put a rod through the block from hydroing a cylinder

Well there aren't any leaks that ive been able to find, the block is clean and no runs anywhere. I park in the same spot at home and at work and no oil spots have developed.

That begs the question of how is it burning the oil with no symptoms of it burning? It doesn't smoke, runs fine, and has no codes.
