BARBER's 2003 Chevy LB7 Duramax

Hopefully I don't blow out the 190k head gaskets. That's one concern.

ive heard of a guy pushing 65 psi on stock head gasket on an lb7, but ive also hear of a guy blowing his head gaskets at 35psi on lb7...

so lets just hope you dont run any crazy numbers.....

Yea I can't remember what the previous owner was running for his boost. He said after rebuilding the turbo with the 1.10 housing he saw another 10 lbs.

Didn't get too much done tonight. I found a guy in Iowa who will swap all my interior switches to red LEDs and rebuild my cluster so I got all that stuff pulled.

Fought all last evening on getting the downpipe off. I don't see how a person can get an LB7 downpipe off with the transmission still in. Had to use a 4ft cheater pipe to get the bolts to break loose.

Anyways then I ran into a big obstacle. The two piece hot pipe that runs up to the s475 is different. Since the kit was but on the previous owners motor...and little did I know...but his was a California emissions motor. The downpipes are different.

Two options. Buy a reman Cali emissions turbo or have a new pipe made using the flange off of my downpipe. Talked to the shop who will tune it and they thought they could build me one. So, I'll keep moving forward and get it all together and load it on a trailer and haul it in to town.

i though you where like good at welding ?

just cut the flange off and weld it on the other pipe ?

but if that seem more crazy then i picture then that sucks !!

I had the same reason when I finally had my downpipe installed. It was ordered from profab and thankfully the shop had the right one for my truck and had was able to get a refund from the company.

With the transmission out, I used a 3/8" ratchet with a 3" extension and shallow sockets with the cheater pipe to bust them loose. I was able to get one loose from on top of the motor. I searched and found a couple threads with good tips on removal. One guy welded up his own offset breaker bar tool to do his.

I got one loose when I attempted mine from the top, the rest were either 1) hard to get to with a wrench or a ratchet or 2) I could not break free. Then when I found out it was a different type of downpipe I was certainly glad I didn't do it

Well it doesn't delay things as much as I thought it would. Spoke to the shop yesterday, emailed them some pics and they called me first thing this morning and said that yes they could fab up a new piece for me. So ya I'll get it all together and haul it to town.

In other news my new rims and tires are sitting at the transport depot in town. Plan on picking those up tomorrow.

Yea a buddies LB7 dually is in the shop getting headgaskets done and he's having them do a downpipe as well. I feel sorry for those guys.
