ITGuy's 2003 Sierra 1500/2500 4x4 RCLB Build Thread

The 2500 is an SLE package.. so it has all the power goodies.


Today's project
- swapping the guts out of the driver side door into my old door.
- delete gmc 2500HD badge, SLE badge
- leave the small Allison/duramax badge on both sides (I'll add it back after door swap).
- swap mirrors
- remove front fender flares [until I get a paint job and can colormatch a new set for all 4 fender]

Swappin' them parts.. move door electrics + lock to old door then do door swap.

Also did mirror + door handle on passenger side. Keeping original door, it's fine.
I didn't get the flares pulled off tonight, ran out of time but got everything else on my 'today' list.

Looks like if you already have cab lights (me) then the holes won't line up / they will be outside of the nnbs lights.
I love the low profile clears through. I would be tempted to do it anyway and fill a few small holes in.
That's what I see so far.. most of the threads are centered around the recons / anzo's.

Today I removed the stock fender flares from the front. Probably a few pounds of mud / dirt packed in behind them. I will be transferring fender(s) off my old truck but wanted to show what happens when sh*t gets trapped behind them.

Other Side, just a line in the paint / clear coat. It will probably buff out, but the whole truck is being painted when the work is complete. You can still see paint peeling and surface rust on the bed too. Can't wait for it all to be gone.

On my way back out to finish swapping fenders.. if it doesn't rain I'll keep going and finish front end as well.

Halting the fender swap. Found a couple of rusty areas on old fender where it connects the cab / rocker and also up inside where it mates with cab. I will remove both and use whichever ends up being less work to prep and paint.

Since I will have a few things on the passenger side removed I decided to stop for today and order a new downpipe since I will have easy access to it.

Check this out.. this is the new front bumper I put on before winter.. it's about 6 months old.

I'll probably grind this down a bit and paint right over it with Por 15 Black Rust paint. I should have done it before even installing it. It will be better than new once that is completed.. probably last 10 times as long. It's just frustrating when even simple tasks take a few hours more to protect it from the elements. Everything has to be built like a tank here.
