Huck's new daily - Victory Red '05 CCSSB

Truck's coming along great! Sorry the Atoto didn't work out for you. What's odd is I don't have any issues that you're describing with the on in my 06 Caddy, so maybe it's something with the specific model you ended up with.
Thanks buddy! No worries, it's always a gamble with off brand stuff. I have a buddy here that's got a different Atoto from yours or mine in his '70 C10 and loves it too. I ordered a Pioneer last night lol

TL:DR - Almost convinced myself to do a 4/6 drop but decided I'd rather spend that money on a regear and I'm gonna continue on the level/bodylift path.

I have a verbal deal on some LTZ 20s (Vmax, Texas Editions, whatever you wanna call them) that have been listed for over a month, 10min from me. I low balled the hell out of them and they said we could meet Sunday 🤘

The tires are no good so I've really been racking my brain trying to decide which route to go on this truck. All my trucks have always been leveled except for my Yukon (now Brian's), so I've been debating dropping it 3/5 or 4/6. Probably wouldn't go 5/7 just cuz I don't wanna deal with crossmember mods/2pc shaft conversion. So I started scouring the web and the old GMFS archives, ran across these two that nearly convinced me...

Until I added everything up and remembered my Yukon only ever got ~14mpg lol. I'd have ~$1200-1400 in the drop kit and still have shitty 3.42 gears and wouldn't be able to do the offroad stuff when needed (not often but the need is there). 2/4 looks like doo doo on a CCSB so I guess I'll just go ahead and start gathering parts for the regear instead, that'd be better money spent. Plus the gov-bomb made a bad sound yesterday turning a corner, so I think a Yukon Duragrip and some 4.88s are in my near future. Maybe someday I'll change it up and drop it but not now

Picked up the wheels yesterday. Didn't realize they had 37x12.50s on them, them's some heavy sumbitches lol. Tire size will depend on how long I can resist the urge to get them on. If I can wait till I regear, I'll throw some keys in and run 33x12.50s, 305/55s, 285/65s, 295/60s, 295/65s or something like that. If I can't wait and run across a deal, 275/55s or 275/60s would be ok for now

Was sitting on the couch last night around 9 looking at that last picture and went "wait a minute". Scrolled through my phone and went "I think I bought my old wheels back". Not many people around here would go through the trouble of getting decals made to match the truck, so there's a damn good chance these are my old ones

Used the Dorman replacement bottom that's a little firmer foam. Much better. Now I just need to figure out why the rear height adjustment won't work. I think I probably have a dead motor, might just have to crank it down manually

Also swapped in the new Pioneer HU in place of the Atoto. Works flawlessly

And also scored a set of 275/60/20 Hankook Dynapro2s with ~6500mi for $200. I'll run these till I can get it regeared

Was going to recommend finding a C rated 33-34" tire to run to maybe alleviate the need to regear but i vaguely remember the 4L60 not being very forgiving. Hell i drove my old truck in 3rd when around town.

Yeah, I think these are C rated. The max PSI is 51, but you're right, you don't have much leeway on a 60e. It feels like a turd with the stock size D load tires I have now.

Came up to the shop this past Saturday to do some tinkering. The GF washed, clay bar'd and started waxing her '21 F150. While she did that, I changed the oil, both belts, AC tensioner, main belt idler pulley and dried out/resealed my pass side foglight

I missed...

We ran out of time before going to dinner with her parents so we had to come back Sunday to finish her truck. While waiting on the wax to set up, I buffed my hood real quick. You can see how much brighter it is than the fender

IMG_8662SMALL.webp

Since I had all the stuff out and had started the hood, that meant I had to continue lol

Yesterday was pretty dead at work, so about 4:30 I started working on getting the tape stripe off the left side and buffing the LF fender/half the driver's door

I used Chemical Guy's VSS and their orange medium/heavy hex pad on the orbital to start with. It worked ok, brought out a good bit of the red but still left a good bit of haze. So then today I found that I had most of a bottle of CGG's C4 correction compound, gave that a try and man what a difference that made. I'm gonna continue with this stuff, try to do a couple panels a day till I'm done. I'll follow with a polish, glaze and then wax

Before, no compounding done at this point
IMG_8750.webp

After the CGG C4 compound, nothing more

You can still see the haze/pink/lack of clarity on the B-pillar here. I've only buffed from the window-line down to the top of the side trim.

More progress. The whole driver's side of the truck was hit with the CGG's C4 twice from the bodyline up, once from the bodyline down. Then polished with CGG's V38 polish (that's also something I had a full bottle of so I used it) and then machine applied waxed with Griots Ceramic All in One liquid wax. I tried CGG's glaze in a couple spots and it didn't make a difference so I didn't bother.

Pass side, can't read the bucket...

Also tried buffing the side trim chrome, was impressed how well it came out

Pictures just don't do it justice, I can't quit looking at it and can't believe how good it came out. I've been kinda bummed on the truck the whole time cuz the paint was so tired but now I'm excited about it again. Can't wait to get it leveled on the 20s

Also finally got my Heartbeat of America tag in and swapped on

Finally got around to doing the pass side this past weekend. JUST BARELY had enough life in my eraser wheel to get the stripe off before it grenaded itself lol. Same thing, 2 rounds of C4 compound, 1 round of V38 polish and topped with Griot's Ceramic All-in-One Wax. Can't tell you how happy I am with the results, just I just need to rescuff and repaint the plastics so they're not so splotchy and paint the rear plastics since I never did the first time.
