05 CCSB slow build

oem covers back on...was leaking from the back, towards the firewall. Will def have to get tabs welded, bolts were tight but they both twisted enough to leak :nono:

So lately I had been noticing a clunk in my steering at low speed turns and mostly when I would first start turning. So I did some googleizing and found out that its a common thing besides the intermediate shaft issue. Turns out that the bushings in the steering rack mount go bad and allow for play, thus the clunk.

So I ordered a set of these bad boys from daystar

Didn't have to remove the steering rack from the truck, just unbolted it from the frame, used a c-clamp and some sockets to squeeze out the old and press in the new ones....fairly easy, took about 2hrs and my steering feels tighter, responds quicker and most importantly...no more foken clunk!

Had an oil analysis done

BlackStoneLabs said:
This sample has us concerned about coolant. We look for coolant via potassium and sodium. Silicon sometimes shows up too, and we have all of them here. It's not quite enough potassium and sodium to call coolant for sure. Silicon could be abrasive dirt getting past the air filter or a harmless sealer if any work was done recently. Sodium could be residual additive, but Amsoil doesn't use it. If you've always run Amsoil this probably is a trace of coolant. The TBN is fine at 2.5. Wear is still low, but run just 5,000 miles on the next oil to monitor.

IDK how I feel about this :emo:

Did have heads done recently (Within 7k of this oil change). He doesn't seem too concerned about the amounts either, but I'll send him a sample in 5k miles...my coolant isn't low at all and Im not losing any either

Interesting. Maybe some coolant spilled when swapping heads? Is this the first change since heads were done? Imo, it doesn't sound like something to be concerned with, just monitored occasionally. Let us know what you find.

Im sure coolant got in there...that top coolant passage gets coolant all over. I ran some bunk oil for a few hundred miles, then dumped it and ran amsoil I sent sample of. I'll send another sample and see what comes up....he didn't seem too concerned about the amount of coolant so Im not TOO worried but still dnw.

so I explained to blackstone how I had just done my head swap....got this

Thanks for the email. Since you just replaced the heads, maybe this is just a little residual coolant from before the repairs were made. Most of the silicon is probably harmless sealers still washing out. That might explain why it was so much higher than potassium and sodium. Hopefully all three elements look better next time.
