Depends on the truck. I didn't on my RCSB but pretty sure you do with anything else.

Everyone I've talked to hasn't had a problem with 7" in the back and no notch. If you haul anything too heavy tho need some helpers or you'll def bottom out.

My cc is fine no notch, but don't expect to haul anything really without hitting hard. Even with nothing...a good bump will still bottom out

Not positive. I'm fine at 7" in the back. Cub is step notched and has a 7" flip and then a 2" shackle and doesn't rub IIRC.
