Discussion: Shift Kit How-To/Write Up

What is your opinion on torque management removal? I won't be towing anything at all, and if I ever do haul anything, it won't be more than 3-400 lbs. Black Bear Performance is coming into town, and I was thinking about having 50% TM removed on standard, and 100% on sport mode\tow-haul button.

Deleting TM 100% isnt a good idea for daily driver and street use in my opinion. I would not go any more than 50% on a stock internal trans and that is actually pushing it. Most people think the resulting "harsher feeling" shifts are a product of less slip/faster shifting, and thus will extend trans life. But if all you've done is delete TM, then the more aggressive feel is due to more engine torque through the shift, and not because the actual shift time nor slip is decreased. A TM delete alone will not decrease wear, but rather increase it. Other things must be changed to decrease shift time and slip. Hence why this thread was made.

Thanks for the info, I'll just pass on the TM removal and just go for a parts-only setup instead.
 
Also, when comparing the billet 2nd to the covette 2nd. I have ran both and I have also ran two different brands of billets. To me paying 70 bucks for a billet and 15 or so for the vette when they honestly perform the same is a no brainer. I have heard guys say the billet 2nds "hit" harder. Again, we dont need rock crushing 1-2 shifts. This is how you break stuff. Firm and quick apply and release is all we want here.

I have argued the same thing for ever, there are a few guys both here and another forum who SWEAR it is soooooooooo much better. Thanks for clearing this up.

If you have a bottomless wallet then running a billet 2nd would be ideal. Mainly for the simple fact to be able to say you have one lol. But when a factory corvette 2nd for 3/4 of the cost of a billet has almost as much fluid apply area as the billet its a no brainer for the novice enthusiast on a budget.

You said Justin (Blackbear) will be tuning your truck soon. He will have your trans settings set right. Justin is good, I have met and seen him tune personally.
