Cal Speed LT install

I will Jared, but it won't be a normal install.
I ordered v-band clamps so I can put my cats in and out of the y for smog. and I'm going to try and weld my own cutout pipe into the collecter just before the flange where it bolts to the catback. With any luck I'll have a lift when I do it though, so I can get good pics.

I'm thinking of just buying some stainless grade 5 bolts for the headers into the flanges. even though I live in Cali, I hate rust and try to replace with stainless wherever I can
 
Finally got time to put in my headers the last 3 days, and I'm still not done lol

I did a lot of customizing, but I have a question, how close to the floor pan are you other guy's headers on the passenger side?
Mine's touching almost, and I have the headers as far down as they will go, and all my motor and trans mounts are good, hardly any movement from the when I rev the engine
 
Mine were fairly close, but I could get my fingers (not my palm, just enough of my hand to work with) in between the headers/floorpan and y-pipe/floorpan
 
Shit okay. I'm thinking I'll try and heat and pry them down tomorrow, because mine are touching ever so slightly, like when I corner I can hear it vibrate

Amazingly everything cleared just marginally, except for the denting I did for the driveshaft since I didn't want to angle down the whole y pipe. It just touches the steering shaft, so I need to dent that primary about a 1/4" tomorrow.
I had a good friend tig weld all the flanges on for me, everything is 304 or 409 stainless, fitting all the pieces was the biggest pia. Had the front driver's side bolt break itself off flush about a month ago, so I pulled the fender liner, and drilled the old bolt out and tapped it's center to be 1/4 inch. Also broke off the last bolt on the driver's side, but it seems to be sealing perfectly fine without it back there.

I still need to bend the last flange down off the floor pan, so I can clamp in the cat and rear flange, then shorten my catback pipe so the flanges will meet up.
I'll update when I finish with some videos too
 
Make sure to post on pt.net, or make an account if you don't have one, for all the dumbasses who say it doesn't work on 4x4
 
The last bolt on my driver's side was already broke when I took off my manifolds. I never had any sealing issues at all, just used orange RTV on the gaskets when I put em on.

As far as them working on 4x4s, you have a huge advantage being lifted. My driver's header, in no way shape or form, was gonna work with my leveled truck. I would've had to half close my collector to get it to clear the d-shaft. I was planning on lifting, so I just left the shaft out and rocked it.
 
I think they would work okay on my truck with 4x4, but it's so damn close it's not worth it. I'm lifted, and still had to dent a little bit because the weight welded on the driveshaft rubbed the collector.

How did you guys bend the y to get it off the floor, I tried today, and the thing's solid, won't move at all, even when hot from driving
 
I just loosened all my connections and wrestled with it till it was where I wanted it. You may not be able to tho since you've got V-bands. I just had normal, wide band clamps.
 
Going to bump this thread for some info as I'm currently on the hunt for some LT's. NBS 4x4 lifted.
Afuso do you still have your LT's on? Did smog shops ever give you any shit for putting your cats on? Ill run no cats but would like to be able to throw some in come smog time each year.
But that's really less of a worry than actual fitment itself
 
Honestly, my next truck will probably be another NBS, and I'm not gonna bother with LTs. It was such a huge PITA and to truly make them fit and keep 4wd, I would've had to cut the flanges off and figure out how to add to the primaries at a slight angle to rotate them toward the frame to clear the DS.

It's just not worth it on a stock motor to me. Hell, even if I were to swap in a mild 6.0, I'd still do manifolds to keep it easy

Sorry I didn't see this guys...

But I love the sound of my headers, I get compliments all the time about how it sounds so good. And every once in a while, like for truck pulls I will un-clamp everything and run open headers just for the sound. Performance wise they do help, but like Huck said, it is a pia, and I'm still messing with mine and having clearance issues trying to make a cat work on there
 
Agreed Anthony, there's no doubt they give a great sound, and you definitely will see some small gains especially in low end tq. But just for me personally, the gains are not worth all the troubles, it's really up to personal preference. I love LTs, have had them on all but 2 of my cars, preach their benefits all day long and would much rather have them then shorties (damn sure not worth anything, all those do are make plug changes harder), but in this instance I'll spend the money elsewhere next time, it's not worth the hassle. Plus the factory manifolds on these trucks aren't really all that bad, they won't really hinder the truck till you're making serious power.
