BARBER's 2008 Silverado Re-Build Thread

Thanks guys. It's turned out to be a bit of a project. I'm going to see if I can move the brackets and shocks out a little bit further. Ordered a few more items the other day. Got some Bilstein billet shock clamps instead of the stupid hose clamps. Also got some 4.25 inch bore center caps to try and make work on the rims and a Bushwacker tailgate cap coming.

Finally got back to work on this thing today. Haven't touched it because earlier this week we got dumped on big time with snow. Started in on Monday and cleared out mid-Wednesday. At the home place we got 18 inches or better. At my place, there was a good 20 inches or better.

Taken late Tuesday night. Snow was still falling.

But, onto truck stuff. Finished up the rear shock project. Picked up some 9/16" bolts, got the upper brackets drilled bigger, all four brackets welded on, and then painted the frame, axle, leafs, etc. with some semi-gloss. I got billet shock clamps coming as well.

I also ordered up some new, different center caps. Those came in today. Test fitted one, and I'm gonna have to cut the lip on the bottom of the cap off and probably another 1/4 or 3/8 of an inch of the cap itself. These are what I bought: 4 Stainless Steel Wheel Rim Center Hub Caps 5 6 Lug 2WD 4WD 4 25" Hub Bore | eBay

Looking good Shawn. Can't wait to see it done... I'll have to meet up with you to see it in person some day

Thanks man. I'd really like to get everything all done on it, get it cleaned up, and take it to the Wheel Jam truck show in Huron this summer. You'll have to make it up to that this year.

Got a little more work done. Cut down the center caps and they are going to work great. I cut off 3/4 of an inch on them, including the lip. The fit nice and tightly. I figured I would have to use some Loctite locking compound, I might not need any, but I think I may get some just for good measures.

I wanted to get a domed/bullet style cap like these: Gorilla Center Cap 4 25" Dia Push Through Dome Chrome Steel HC202BT | eBay

But, I wanted a stainless cap since I knew I'd be cutting the lip off, so didn't want something rusting. I guess I could still get a chromed steel cap like the one I just linked and use some etching primer on the cap after cutting it and then go ahead and use some locking compound once on the wheel.

Can't remeber his name but there was a guy on GMFS that had some flat caps he modded to fit the motos, look REALLY good.

Doctor X I believe it was. I don't know, the ones he made for the black rims didn't look too bad. But then again, on the black 962s, I personally don't think the Moto Metal caps look too bad. I think what I got going on looks pretty damn good. I wish I could find a domed or a pointed cap in stainless or polished aluminum.

EDIT: DAMN IT! I didn't look hard enough! These are sweet: http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-BULLET-AL...Parts_Accessories&hash=item460e59c35d&vxp=mtr

EDIT - EDIT: I bought them! :omg:

Yeah, Dr. X did some nice ones but the guy I'm thinking about had them on some chrome 962s. He had a NBS IIRC.
