Important!: 4.8L Dyno Numbers

There mightttttt be one in Shreveport now but there use to not be, think there's one in Longview, that's closer than Dallas

what head gaskets u go with? how much preload on the lifters with those pushrods? Any intake manifold fitment issues?

Curious to see what gains were from the 243's
I have basically the same exact set up for my 5.3, and I'm on the fence of doing a 243 swap

I have essentially the same cam 214/222 not sure of your lift and what not
Tbss intake and TB as well and long tubes.

Edit:just saw your lift and lsa on the first page. Mine is .560/.569 111

I used:

214/222 .595 .602 on a 113 + 2 EPS Cam
243 heads milled .040
NNBS Intake Manifold
Stock 78mm Throttle Body with FAST adapter
Longtubes/ORY
7.375 hardened pushrods
Ls7 lifters
Ls2 trays
Tr55 plugs
MSD Super Conductor wires
160 thermostat
And hoped for 330+

The tuner said that intake must do a lot because he was surprised by the numbers. And just as I've seen many many times, he said 90mm throttle body would make it much more difficult to drive. And it would lose low end considerably IMO from what I've seen. Need as much low end as u can get in a truck. I'm lovin it, and very happy.

Stock MLS .051

Not sure on the preload but the guy who specd the cam recommended them and then fell between the 1-1/4 to 1-3/4 turns to tighten so they work perfect.

I'd reccomend using GM intake gaskets because on the felpro ones I had, the little locators were about an 1/8“ thick whereas the GM ones have 1/16" thick locators. The intake wouldn't fit with the felpros but drop in nicely with some maneuvering with the GM gaskets.

Definitely do 243 swap. By the time you pay to port and polish the 862s, you end up paying more money for a head that still has fairly small valves. A stock or milled 243 is a much better value and flows alot better

I'm interested that this little engine makes such good power.

I was contemplating a 243 head swap a while back for my 5.3, because those heads and intake are what the nnbs engine come with factory. Would be interesting to see the gain with just the 243 head swap and nnbs intake over a stock older 5.3/4.8?

Love this thread just wish i could afford to drop this all on a motor lol. Maybe ill look into the intake swap but the heads and cam seem a bit involved.

Idk how far you are from me.. But we have three here in Longview. Two of them are dyno jets and one is a mustang dyno. The owners know to run them too lol

No shit. I was always told east Texas muscle cars had one but when I called they said they only used it for shop purposes. That's been awhile back though. Longview is only about an hour away. Can you pm some more info on those? Thanks

Hell yeah we will lol. East Texas muscle cars does have one. They're weird about it though. Lucky's speed has one but I think it's broken right now my truck has been on that one. Then there is the mustang dyno that some random guy has at his shop lol. I need to find out his address and stuff and give him a call. Last I heard it was $50 for one pull or $75 for 3 there. I'll let you know when I figure it out!
