My mirrors are done the same way. If you paint the black part it will just scratched up when you pull the mirrors out

They made it more flush instead of sticking out like normal and rounded it off.

Thats what I was thinking, I guess I've just never seen any of the colormatched mirrors extended so I never noticed it.
