Hey there, I’m always late to the party but what matters is that I’m here. I have very similar if not the same dilemma. Here’s my deal 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 with no transmission temp gauge so I did just a little bit of looking into and I apparently you can add a stepper motor and do some kind of flashing, which is what I’m stuck at. I need more information in order to get the temp gauge to move and register so my question to you is have you did you figure that out? Can I DIY this thing myself? I figured out the soldering part is back together but like you or someone else said it needs to be reprogrammed? Can you give me any information that may Hell, the whole reason I even got into any of those it all started with my steering wheel controls and not working it up replacing the clock spring convinced it was gonna fix it, but it didn’t and all I did was damaged a good clock spring after it was all set and done. I finally figured out that it was not the clock spring. That was the issue, but the damn cluster. The cluster was not the original cluster that was in this truck because the original was under the seat, thank God. Apparently the replacement cluster was never programmed for my truck so it was missing a lot of functions and features and also causing service brake booster message to come on. I ended up chasing that damn thing down and wasting more money. Took me to the dealership have them charge me $200 to diagnose me and give me a wrong diagnosis then I have to turn around and spend 170 something on a used cluster. Across my research I ironically, I was using an AI to help me diagnose, and the AI said that in some cases replacement gauge clusters can cause the steering wheel controls to malfunction or not work. Last resort, I stuck the original gauge cluster in, which had all but one stepper motors, broken, and to my joy and relief my steering wheel controls came back online or at least half of them. Period it turns out I’m not the only ignorant amateur messing around with things because the previous ignorant amateur installed an aftermarket radio and fucked up all the steering wheel controls having to deal with the radio so those still don’t work. I have to get in there and figure out what the F was going on, but I digress. What’s your take on all of this, if you have one?
