Hello, I have a 1940 Chevrolet Two door sedan named "Mathilde" that I am still trying to get completely on the road. So I am looking for some good info on a few things.
The car is big and beautiful with new high gloss black paint that you can see the trees and clouds in as you roll down the road. Interior was all done by me, and I'm real happy with it. The down sides are, as all of you know, starting to try my patience. We have rewired the entire car. So those big hassles are behind me as well. The original 216 was gone when I bought it and it has a 48 216 in it that runs great, but the block is cracked. I have purchased a correct numbers 40 block, but then found out about the Babbit bearings. That put the skids on a rebuild. We were going to do it ourselves until the lead bearing thing punched us in the gut. So since the motor isn't original, I could find someone to rebuild the motor with my new block ($10,000.00) nope! I could try to find a good running 1940 216, but so far no luck there. I have even thought about looking for a Pontiac straight 8. I think it would fit and hook to my transmission. That is kind of what I'm doing here, asking if you all have ideas on what to do.
Thanks and I will be looking forward to any response,
Stacy
