Thanks dudes. I'm picking the truck up today and bringing it home. Going to paint the new metal re plumb the airlines and wire up the accuair.
Then I'll put the bed back on. Hoping to have it ready for turkey drag which is Dec 2-4.
I started out by wiping it down with lacquer thinner on a rag. Then went over it with a paint scraper. Then I finished it off with a wire brush on my grinder.
I've done a few of these and this is the best way I've done it. I don't know if the thinner actually loosens up the factory coating, but it helps having it through the process to clean up with. You can use the wire brush for the whole job, but it's super messy and seems like it just moves the sticky coating around a lot before taking it off. It sucks to do it that way imo.
This took me around 2 hours start to finish. Not too bad.
Also, you'll wanna make sure and put something like a drop cloth or an old sheet down on your garage floor before stripping the factory coating off. It makes a mess either way you do it, and it will stick to your floor and your shoes and is a bitch clean up.
Last mockup of everything before I tore it all back down. The wishbone, lower link arms, and fuel cell straps are going in for powder coat today. Just doing gloss black.
Those Ridetech shocks look good on there, and will hopefully ride even better.
