Hello, i want to get rid of the drum brakes on the back of my NBS crew cab, and swap in some disc brakes.

What some some of the more common conversions for this application? Any suggesgions?

The 99-02 1500 trucks came with disc brakes on the rear. From what I've heard its a pretty simple swap. Just unbolt all the drum shit and bolt on the disc stuff. I would like to say that 99-02 all came with disc and some of the 03/04 truck did too. And I've heard that the tahoes/suburbans did as well but i've never got a close enough look at them to be sure.

03-04 does for a fact, 05 changed I believe

Correct they also put bigger front brakes on in 2005. My 2004 Crew cab has rear disks. Also some can with 1 piston rear calipers and some(like mine, 4wd LT3 with HD towing package) have 2 piston calipers. I listed mine because I have no idea what designated what calipers you got, don't forget to grab the master cylinder, IIRC they are different.

there are differences in the master cylinder depending on the brake code. JC3, JL4, JH6, JH7. all in 2004 models

The difference is hydroboost & vacuum. Both will bolt right up and will work with drum and disc brakes. If they weren't then the hydroboost swap wouldn't be easy lol.

Yea, i dont get that. I checked on my shop truck which is a beat to hell 2001 silverado, it has rear disc, never even cared to look. On my 2006 CC fully loaded, rear drum. On my 2011 Silverado z71 rear drum.

Weird.

thanks all!

Went back to drums because some trucks started having issues with the rear disc brakes.

The proportioning valve was another addition to the brakes in avalanches and tahoes.

Some silverados have it too. The simplest setup is on the 99-02 though.

My 04 brakes fine I pulled a truck close to 250 miles. Some decent sized hills, never did wieght it but the trailer was an old HEAVY steel trailer, had a 90 4wd RCLB F150 on it. The trailer as much as I hate to admit it the brakes need to be rebuilt and hooked up so I towed that truck brakes only.
