i have a 5.7 tbi motor dont get me wrong it runs perfect but the weird thing is is when i drive my parents 03 yukon xl with a 5.3 in it, it seems like it has more get up and go and spunk then my truck does......any reasoning behind this?

my oil was just change just weird that the yukon xl with 5.3 in it is spunkier then my 95 k1500 with the 5.7

both vehicles 4wd as well

Hmmm, not real sure. But I do know my stock 5.3 walked off and left a stock 5.7. They can do just about anything with these motors. Hell my stock (2000) only pushed 240hp new, I think. The new 5.3 have over 300 I believe, not exactly sure, but you see where I'm going.

Night and day difference between a 5.7 and 5.3...just google edmunds specs of the two and you real soon realize how big! The 5.7 is a dog turd...modding it is useless imo

well i cant say its useless i mean it is the basic sbc it can be built to make serious power. just out of the box isnt a great performer.

Chris,

the obs motor is based off the old SBC, with just a basic change in the intake, heads, and throttle body. they have decent low end torque, but are not powerfull by any means.

the 5.3 is based off the LS series motors, which is a completely different platform, and is a far more efficent motor.

Many people have made the switch between the 2, and generally the hardest part is the wiring. just because there is so much to do. and its not something you can half ass (dont want to be broken down chasing a loose wire)

to make the swap you can generally bolt any LS motor in, as they blocks are all similar, biggest differance is aluminum vs cast iron.

The 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0 externally look exactly the same, except for casting numbers ect.

just remember if you do the swap, you will need the adaptor for the flywheel IIRC, depending on what power adders you have or what motor you pick, your trans may not stand up to it. (the 6.0 generally will blow up a stock 4l60e becuase of the power. unless you baby the shit out of it), also motor mounts, exhaust, and a few other things.

Just some thoughts to help clearify some facts.

well that helps alot man!

Whats a reasonable 6.0 or 5.3 go for nowadays? dont wanna be shelling out shit tons of money for a motor when i can get it for less somewhere else.

Idk if its just the way i am or not but regardless id probably want to rebuild it after i got it bc then i 100% know whats new, (if i get used) then i dont have to trust what the seller tells me and it turn out to be bullshit.

I guess prices vary where you live then. When i looked around, locally, cl, forums, etc. the cheapest I found was $1500, with 90k on it for 6.0.
