GM 8.6" blew G80 & Broken Axle Housing

So I finally removed my rear axle today after putting it off for months and was hoping it was going to be pretty straight forward and just pull out the grenaded G80 and check everything good then install my new Detroit TruTrac, 4.10's and Moser cover. Well when I looked at it way back I missed a huge crack that it made on the front passenger side of the housing where it tried to punch through. Anyway wish I had seen this a while back and I would of just ordered a Moser M9 rear housing with same stuff for it. And if I can sell these new parts I bought I will, but could I just weld up this housing and it be fine?

the biggest problem is that is is a cast housing. If you preheat the shit out of it, weld it, and then slowly let it cool, (meaning use a torch and slowly just apply less heat, then you have a chance.

Worst case, just pick up another rear from a junkyard, and put your new gets in it, it will be cheaper, swap right in, and you can use the parts you have vs having to make something fit, and buy all new parts. With a tru-trac in it, you wont have to worrry about it again.
 
Yeah I'm currently hunting for a bare housing. My problem is I will have to buy one with all the stuff in it when I would much rather just buy a empty new one and then go from there. Has anyone seen any new bare housing for sale online?

So I haven't had much luck with finding a replacement rear end housing that wasn't in the $600-$900 range. Well I had a friend of my dads who had this supposedly 02 or 03 tahoe rear end that long story short I went and grabbed for $200. But its alittle different from my current and I'm just hoping it's not a GM 8.5 instead of a 8.6 but do you guys know what numbers to check the year and application or how I can figure out the exact difference between my 05 housing and this one.
